BSD Agility World Championships

This year the FMBB World Championships were held in Cottbus, Germany. We arrived rather late at the Hotel in Cottbus on Tuesday 18th May. The hotel which we were staying at for the duriation was rather up market and our room was really nice and roomy!

The next day we wondered around the small market that was just outside the hotel which we had a really nice bratwurst (saussage) in a roll. Later that day we then had to set up our base at the venue and then be a part of the Opening Ceremony which was slightly shorter than normal simply because it was beginning to get rather late. That evening we all went out for dinner at a lovely restaurant called Olympia, which served great food and for a reasonable price.

It was now Thursday 20th May, which was training for all countries. Luckily our team didn't have to be oe of the first so we got to watch all the other teams route around the equipment that was laid out. During that time we watched a different training technique for training up-contacts, which involved putting stride regulators on the up plank of the dog walk which meant the dog almost "skipped" its way up the contact, ensuring its stride took it on to the contact. The GB team had 16 minutes of training/practise which went really well which was a great confidence builder for everyone. After the success of dinner on the previous evening, which was much better due to the english speaking Waiter and also the lovely food, so we chose to go back once again to Olympia.

The following day, Friday 21st May was the first day of competition. The first run was an Agility run, and Dave and Rusty gave an absolutely awsome performance with a clear round which ended up being placed in 2nd and confidently qualifying them both for the final on Sunday! The next run was the Jumping run, where Dave and Rusty put in yet again another stunning clear and again qualifying for them for the final. The final run of the day was the team jumping round which consited of Dave, Jo, Gill and Michelle. The team got 3 out of 4 clears, unfortunately Rusty took a pole however in FCI competition only 3 runs out of the 4 in the team actually counted. In the evening once again the team went to our now favourite restaurant, Olympia with its truely great food!

The 2nd day of competition, Saturday 22nd May, started with a Jumping round where due to the surface being astroturf with sand so in order to preserve Rustys' paws we decided that we should pull her from this run. The next round was the Agility where Rusty ran super well, and only taking 10 faults, one being a pole and another a dogwalk contact, which was very close. The final run for this day was the Team Agility round, Jo & Keisha unfortunately got 5 faults on the down A-Frame contact and Gill & Check got an Elimination whereas Michelle & Jive and Dave & Rusty both got great clear rounds. The Team did awsomely well and much better than the year before, and it was just soo unfortunate that Jo and Gill did not get clear rounds as it would have been likely the team could have had a podium finish. After the show, everyone decided that for our last evening we should go back again to Olympia where the Manager/Waiter (English speaking guy) gave everyone their first drink on the house as we had been such loyal customers since we had been there.

Our last day was the Finals Day, Sunday 23d May. Dave & Rusty and also Helen & Zeus had qualified for the finals. The first run was the Jumping round where unforunately Rusty powered past a jump, Dave managed to recover the round and they ended up with just a 5R . The final round was Agility where Dave & Rusty pulled a stunning run out of the bag, even getting a round of aplause before they had finnished due to the layering of the contact which they accomplished. The closing ceremony, was rather long and they had put on a band to open the closing ceremony. As soon as the ceremony has finished, we got back to the coach ready for the long trip home from another great year at the FMBB World Championships.

I am hoping to upload a video of Rustys' Final Agility round soon :)) For the results of how the other squad members did go to ... http://bsdwc.blogspot.com/
